Kayak Safety Video

IMPORTANT

Safety & What to Expect

Your safety is our priority at Disley Meadow Kayak Hire on the Peak Forest Canal (Bridge 27, Disley).

All hires are conducted using stable sit-on-top kayaks, selected specifically for beginner suitability and reduced risk. Before arriving, all customers must watch our safety video and confirm they understand the guidance provided.

On arrival, you will receive:

• A commercial-grade sit-on-top kayak

• A paddle

• A correctly sized buoyancy aid (life jacket) – compulsory

• A safety whistle

• Assisted launch and landing

• A full verbal safety briefing

• Emergency contact instructions

A first aid kit and rescue equipment are held on site, and weather and water conditions are checked before every hire. If conditions are unsafe, hire will be postponed.

What You Must Bring

To ensure you remain comfortable and safe on the water, we strongly recommend bringing:

• Comfortable clothing suitable for the weather

• Old trainers or water shoes (the bank can be uneven)

• A waterproof jacket if rain is possible

• A change of clothes (just in case!)

• Sunscreen and drinking water in warm weather

• Any essential personal medication (e.g. inhaler)

Please ensure:

• You can swim at least 25 metres

• You are medically fit to participate

• No alcohol or drugs are consumed before or during hire

Canal water is not sterile. Cover any cuts with waterproof plasters, avoid touching your face, and wash your hands after your session.

Important

Kayaking is an outdoor adventure activity and, like all water-based activities, carries an element of risk. By booking, you acknowledge that you understand these risks and agree to follow all safety instructions provided.

Our kayaks operate on a calm, defined section of canal and launches are supervised to ensure you are confident before setting off.

If you have any concerns about suitability, medical conditions, or weather conditions, please contact us before booking — we are always happy to advise.
